They Paved Paradise and Put up a Parking Lot.

Alan L. Jennings

Updated: May 29, 2023

Lots of people and many moving parts are talking about and working on the situation developing over the disputed parking lot. I am hoping that, by Sunday, when the churches are expected to vote on the merger, that enough parishioners will be thinking a second time about how they’re dealing with the city and the university over the lot.

The city is resolute in its desire to address key quality-of-life issues (like housing that is affordable to working people). It has additional resources, including legal ones, that it can still deploy to make sure it is successful. Key leadership appears prepared to throw the high inside fastball if necessary. It is the city’s hope that this standoff can still have a happy ending.

I can tell you that this discussion we have all had today has had an impact on the situation and I think that is a good one. So keep your interest, keep talking about it, spread the word if you know anybody involved, feel free to tell them what you think.
